1. Keep windows open as long as is possible
Most camping sites are located in hot sunny environments. In this case, remember to keep the tent’s windows open to create the best ventilation possible. If your tent is portable, remember to always store it in a cool and dry area; or in your backpack if you’re on the move a lot.
2. Shade – your friend
It is a wise idea to pitch your tent under a shade to maintain coolness. For instance, find shady acacia trees and set camp under. A location with good shading means will also ensure you have no trouble sleeping.
3. Wind – your best friend
If you’re camping in a windy environment, then by all means, use it to your advantage. Pitch your tent such that the breeze will blow directly through the window. This will provide and maintain fresh air inside the tent.
4. Buy a fan
Available in any travel shop are conveniently portable battery-powered or solar rechargeable fans. You can always use them. They will build up a consistent flow of air in the tent, ensuring you stay cool and relaxed.
5. The sleeping bag sheet – a bonus
Another tip for camping in hot weather is to use sleeping bag sheets. Most sleeping bags are equipped with soft woolen sheet consisting of loosened-up stitches which guarantees proper aeration when you sleep on it. At night when it gets hot, switch from the sleeping bag to this sheet. They are available in many shops catering for camping or travel equipment.
6. Take good care of your tent
A damaged tent could cause it to tear beyond repair. Taking good care of your tent will avoid damage that could cause you to having cold sleepless nights, or getting scorched by a typical unforgiving midday sun. Here’ how to take care of your tent:
* Wash and dry the tent fully. Do not pack a wet tent. Fungus will grow on your tent if you do the contrary.
* Use soft detergents to wash tents, or use warm water without any artificial soap. Have a sponge with you to wipe it slowly and thoroughly.
* Never use a washing machine to clean your tent.
* Keep candles, splints, burning torches far away from your tent.
